The Perks of Being a Wallflower

After reading The Perks of Being a Wallflower, which mind you was a mere week because it was that amazing, I can't help but be in awe of Stephen Chbosky's talent.

The whole book is written in sort of a diary like fashion, but it's actually letters that Charlie is sending to an unknown person. In these letters, he pours out his heart as well as his understanding, and misunderstanding, of the world.

Charlie is a unique character as he is constantly observing what is happening around him, as the story develops Charlie learns to get involved a little bit more in what life has to offer.

I really can't recommend this book enough, without doubt on every page there would be a quote that would have me thinking just how right it was. I don't know if Chbosky heard these quotes somewhere or they simply formed out of his (brilliant) mind, but they are the kind people get tattooed on their bodies.

The whole story puts life into perspective and really shines a light on the dynamics of being a teenager.

The book has recently been made into a movie, with Emma Watson as Charlie's love interest. I'm not sure if the movie could truly do justice to the imagery that was created in the book, but lets hope it does!

Here is a link to the official soundtrack, which is great to just listen to, and reflect.

This is also worth listening to. It's Charlie's favourite song and without question, the song for the whole book. It's simply perfect.

  4. I've wanted to read this book for the LONGEST time!!! I'm glad you say it was so good too. Now I'm all the more motivated to get the book.
Can I ask you a question though, was there a lot of swearing in it? Or sex? I'm not too into books that have a ton of that.

    1. I don't remember there being any swear words, although there may have been a few. As for sex, there aren't any explicit sex scenes, but they have a few minor other things. They don't go over it too much though, I think they sort of had to put it in as it's an aspect of discovering yourself in your teenage years :)
      Hope that answer helps!
