Don't think, Just be

[aside from last image, pictures are not my own]

It's finally happened. After months of umming and ahhhing about it I've finally got myself a tumblr. I'm still adjusting to it, and I find I get so caught up with reblogging pretty pictures that I forgot to step back and have a look at the whole picture. Bit of a life lesson there really...

I'd really love it if you could give it a look, and let me know what you think. Like I said, I'm still learning. Also, it'd be great if you could leave me the links to your tumblr's so I can see how it's done :)

In a daze

Not only does Nom Kinnear King have an unusual name but she's managed to achieve
a style unlike any artist I've seen. The doe-eyed slightly haunting girls seem to all have
a secret hidden deep within their souls. Originally from the Norfolk countryside Nom has
since lived Brighton, London and Melbourne but is now back in Norfolk again. I
discovered her wondrous paintings in the book Curvy, which works to promote
artworks by likeminded creative ladies.

sweet dreams

Chuck Palahnuik is one of those authors that you either despise or become utterly obsessed with, there is no in-between, and luckily for me it was the latter.

It was a hard choice picking which Palahnuik novel to begin with, but after much deliberation I decided on Lullaby which basically won me over with its amazing cover.

Lullaby follows the strange and compelling life of Carl Streator. Carl once had a happy life with a beautiful wife and child, that was until he read them a lullaby and woke up to both of them dead. Little did he know the lullaby was actually an African culling song used to peacefully kill children during times of drought when they would starve to death anyway.

Now Carls life centres around trying to destroy all the books that had the lullaby, so something like this will never happen again, as well as trying to destroy the original. Whilst on this journey, Carl takes advantage of his newfound "power", meets a woman who has been doing so for years and a young magic obsessed couple who both want the lullaby for separate reasons.

Reading Lullaby was such a breeze because I found that I couldn't put it down. Palahnuik is such an unusual writer that you really can never predict what happens next, at times disturbing and other enlightening there really is something to keep you interested on every page.

I really recommend you read this book, even just as a taste of something unusual, as it makes you question several aspects of daily life. However, at times the book can get quite graphic and sexual, so if this isn't your thing then I don't recommend you read it - or maybe just when it starts getting dirty flip the page!

Considering how much I love my music I've been trying to think of the best way to share that with you. So this is the first of many attempts (bare with me people!), and it's a compilation filled with a lot of lovely voices and sweet tunes. Hopefully something that eases you into the week ahead.

on the border

[start shopping here]

I'm not entirely sure if discovering Olive clothing is a good or bad thing, granted they have utterly amazing clothes that I would easily wear day in day out, but they also stand as a threat to my bank account. So, I think I'm going to take it slow and limit myself to one thing. Just to start with.
What would you buy?

Dog-eared

[apologies for the quality]

Always having a good book at hand is a big deal to me, as reading is such a big part of my life, however I think I've slightly over done it of late.

In the past week I've managed to collect such a large stack of books I couldn't even tell you where each one was from, or even how much. It's like I'm possessed by some book-reading-spontanouse-shopping-fiction-lover, but hey, I'm not complaining.

So here's my bounty -

Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides
How did you get this number by Sloane Crosley
Invisible Monsters by Chuck Palahniuk
Beneath the darkening sky by Majok Tulba
The perks of being a wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
Kafka on the shore by Haruki Murakami
Lullaby by Chuck Palahniuk
I was told there'd be cake by Sloane Crosley

Looks like I have a lot of late nights tucked under my blanket ahead!

Lana got leaked

Now I know it wasn't too long ago that I did a post about Lana, but truth is I'm a bit of a fan now so I have been following her antics. The latest thing to come out of the Lana world is actually rather exciting, four of her songs have been leaked online and one of which, Summer of Sam, is a sound that I've never heard come out of those lovely thick lips.

See what you think.

I apologise for yet another large photo post but Wildfox's new SS2012 collection is utterly amazing and I felt I'd be doing you a disservice if I didn't show you.

The lookbook was inspired by the novel Even Cowgirls Get The Blues and your classic cowboy films.
