sweet music

It's fair to say that I had an absolute crapper of a day. I won't get into the details but it was one of those days where you just want to go to bed, forget it ever happened and wake up to the promise of a new day.

Unfortunately considering that this all happened in the morning going to bed at 1 didn't seem like a plausible option.

So instead I listened to the manifested dreaminess that is Matt Corby. For those who haven't heard of Matt Corby just looking at his pretty face alone is enough to lift your moods, and I was in serious need of mood lifting.

I thought I'd share with you all my favourite Matt Corby track, or at least one of, so for those of you that are in a bad mood or who have had a tough 24 hours, hope this makes you feel better :)

Awol

I've been somewhat absent from my blog lately and for that I apologise. But I've been having so much fun it's been hard to fit in my blogging as well, although I do love to blog.

On the 23rd it was my birthday, I don't exactly know how I feel about it. I'm 20 now, so it feels like from here on bit by bit I'm going to lose my naivety and youth. But heck, I'm only 20 so it's still a while off from that!

Basically over the past few days I've been celebrating my birthday each and every way. I went out on the Thursday night, and lived up my last moments of being a teenager. Doing the usual things that I really shouldn't do.

On Saturday I caught up with some of my amazing friends whom I haven't seen for ages. It was a mini-Contiki catch up reunion, and for those of you who haven't done a Contiki tour or similar, you live with these people for weeks on end so they virtually become your family.

And lastly on Sunday night I went out with my close-knit group and had Thai for dinner at this dingy little place, but it's actually the best Thai spot around!

I did get up to numerous other things while I was away, but I'm still busy busy busy. I promise to upload a few pics of my adventures so you can see firsthand what I've been up to. Time to get that camera developed.

Hope you all had a fabulous weekend.

Underwater

I've been meaning to watch this film for quite some time and finally on a lazy Sunday I got around to it!
Submarine is this brilliantly strange film about a teenage boy who just discovers love, sex and that his mum is having an affair.

It's got this weird sort of British humour, which I love, and Oliver (who is played by Craig Roberts) is so awkward that he completely fits the bill of the unpopular kid at school.

In typical teenage style Oliver falls for the girl on the wrong side of the tracks, Jordana, who has a strange fascination for matches, likes watching kids get bullied and is constantly seen smoking. Throughout the film she wears her scarlet red coat, I think a slightly obvious hint to her devious ways.

The first time he has sex has got to be one of the funniest moments in the movie. And I'm fairly certain was an awkward time for most of us.

He stumbles through life a bit, and makes a lot of wrong decisions, which I'm sure is fairly true to how most of us went through out teens.

It is a bit slow moving but I really recommend it if you like strange movies, can follow a plot line and can appreciate the humour in life.

The Beekeeper

Quite often I find myself hunting through youtube to find an amazing original artist that no one else has really heard. I think I may have just found her.

Lady Lamb and the Beekeeper has such a soft sweet voice she seems like the world hasn't had a chance to touch her. Her style sometimes wanders into more of a folky genre, particularly when she strums on her banjo, but aside from this her voice is too brilliant to ignore.

She is only quite small, so she doesn't have an endless supply of songs, but those that she does are of pure wonder.

On a Winters day

Lately my health has been matching the weather, and for those that aren't in Melbourne that isn't a good thing. I've been struck down with a flu and it always seems to do crazy things to me.

I made a scrumptious Lemon Meringue Pie, which has to be one of my favourite desserts in the whole world. I also treated myself to a delicious brekky the next day. It was a bacon and egg muffin with baby spinach leaves and hollandaise sauce, yummy!

I've been doing a bit of op-shopping lately, it's something that I've never been particularly good at. I don't usually have the patience to find the treasures within. This cute little bag though has been the exception, it's in amazing condition, was only $5 and has a little gold feather in the corner. Op-shopping isn't so bad after all.

Hope the rest of you haven't caught a winter cold, seems like everyone I know has.

MTV Fashion Spotlight

As I'm sure everyones aware the MTV awards were held a couple of days ago and with it the internet has had an influx of red carpet shots. I figure I'd do my bit to clog the web and share with you some of my favourite outfits.

Farewell

It's funny when you think of how much you can accomplish in a mere 31 days. In comparison to a year it looks so minuscule but May was only proof of what can happen.

I

-  saw the fabulous band San Cisco play at The Corner Hotel
- managed to score myself a new bar job
- saw The Avengers (not my choice, trust me!)
- baked tons and tons of cookies and cupcakes
-have numerous lunch dates with scrumptious food
-farewelled one of my amazing friends for her trip to Denmark
-attended an inspirational Global Leadership Convention (for the 2nd time)
- went to my magazine launch and gushed at my published work
- was part of a silent protest in Melbourne
- saw American Pie: The Reunion (also not my choice)

Let's just hope I can achieve just as much in June. It is holidays after all and I can't believe it but I'll be turning 20 on the 23rd! It feels like just yesterday that I was manoeuvring myself through high school. Looks like I'll finally have to grow up :)

How was your May?

Take me there

Valparaiso (Chile) is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating cities in the world. If you don't know already, I have a slight obsession with street art, and Valparaiso is filled to the brim with it.
Its one of those hectic cities where colourful square houses teeter on a cliff side and if you look from below they look as if they're playing some balancing act with each other.
The city hasn't yet been marked as a tourist hot spot but with it's recent media that mightn't last too much longer.
I've got some saving to do!
